The Union Cabinet, has granted approval for a constitutional amendment bill that proposes reservations for women in Parliament and state assemblies.
This marks a historic development, with numerous prior attempts dating back to 1996 having failed.
While the UPA government successfully passed the bill in the Upper House in 2010, it couldn't proceed to the Lok Sabha due to pressure from its allies.

Goldy Brar, the prime suspect in the Murder case of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, has been fatally shot in the US, according to media reports. According to reports, citing American news channels, Brar, who was declared a terrorist by the Home Ministry, was attacked on Tuesday evening in Fairmont and Holt Avenue. Unidentified attackers allegedly opened fire on Brar and his buddy as they were standing outside his house and then fled the area. Two people were taken to the hospital where one of them died.
